We specialize in helping anxious children feel safe and at ease—because positive dental experiences start with trust and comfort.

Sedation dentistry uses safe, controlled methods to help children feel calm during their dental visit. At Todd S. Brasuell Pediatric Dentistry, we offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) for mild anxiety, oral conscious sedation for more complex procedures, in-office IV sedation administered by a licensed anesthesiologist, or general anesthesia via a local surgery center for children who require a deeper level of care. Our doctors are highly trained in sedation techniques and tailor each plan based on your child’s age, health, and comfort level. We also offer quiet rooms and sensory-friendly amenities to support children with special healthcare needs.

We know that fear or past trauma can make a dental visit stressful, especially for little ones. That’s why we prioritize compassionate communication and evidence-based sedation techniques to ease anxiety. Whether your child is extremely fearful, very young, or requires multiple procedures in one visit, we’ll guide you through safe sedation options that make dental care feel manageable.
Sedation helps children have positive experiences at the dentist, reducing fear and laying the groundwork for lifelong oral health.
With sedation, even lengthy or complex treatments can be completed while your child stays calm and relaxed.
Our team has experience treating kids with sensory sensitivities, autism, and developmental differences—and we use sedation to help them feel secure.
This gentle, fast-acting option helps children relax during their visit while staying awake and responsive. It’s administered through a soft nose mask and wears off quickly after the appointment, so kids can return to their day with no lingering drowsiness.
Oral sedation involves giving your child a safe, prescribed liquid medication before their appointment to help them feel calm and drowsy. It’s a great option for children with mild to moderate anxiety or those undergoing longer procedures. While they’ll remain awake, most kids feel relaxed and may not remember much about their visit.
For children with high anxiety, special healthcare needs, or extensive dental work, we offer in-office IV sedation administered by a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist. Your child will sleep comfortably through their procedure in a safe, familiar environment—without the need to travel to a hospital setting.
For children with more extensive work or special healthcare needs, we also offer general anesthesia. Performed by a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist at the St. Tammany Health System Surgery Center outpatient surgery, you can rest easy knowing your child is safe and comfortable while they receive the care they need to thrive.
We make every sedation experience safe, personalized, and parent-approved. From consultation to recovery, we communicate clearly so you and your child feel confident every step of the way.
We’ll meet with you to discuss your child’s needs, review medical history, and determine the safest and most effective sedation option.
Your child will receive sedation in a calm, child-friendly setting with constant monitoring to ensure their safety and comfort.
Once treatment is complete, we’ll guide you through what to expect as your child wakes up and recovers at home.
